Analyzing Phase 1 Website
After doing an in-depth AI unbiased analysis of the existing website and understanding how it was developed, and after working with the original developer to change Squarespace settings to allow ATPG domains, emails, and websites, it became apparent that for allthingspg.org to grow with a database, we needed Phase 2. Once you have a database, you can do just about anything in a future release. Stuff you cannot do with a static web site.
Phase 1 of the website met every goal in the initial design and implementation, which was to establish a presence quickly as a nonprofit organization. It looks amazing and works well, but it is static, with a small set of static information describing Pyoderma Gangrenosum. It was built with a custom web builder where you enter text, and it builds the HTML web pages. It is simple and works very well, but it is meant for static websites. In order to be all things PG, it was clear the website had to grow beyond static pages as the organization grew.
Phase 2 will be a giant leap forward from Phase 1, but it will not be the final release and will not contain every imaginable feature now. It will mostly be the initial development of the database and a framework that allows for data-driven features. Phase 2 will include everything needed for a long time, but there will always be a need to grow and add new content and new features.
Ideas for Future Development
For a nonprofit foundation, there are many things that can be added to a website:
- Information about the organization and our purpose
- Lots of content about our rare disease, including a complete searchable knowledge base
- Activities of the organization to spread awareness
- Involvement with partner organizations
- Tools and utilities to help patients, caregivers, providers, and associates
- Resources and materials on research, clinical trials, and drug development
- Support to those affected by PG, because they will come to us with questions
- Patient stories, caregiver stories, a picture gallery, and wound care content
- Educational videos on how to do things
- Our PFAC engagements
- The list is endless
